klang collection is my musical reflection on the coronavirus period in which I dealt with sounds, things and places that were important to me in 2020 and 2021—that were on the schedule but remained “unheard” due to the situation—complemented by strong reminiscences of “the times before”. Nevertheless, many of the pieces are abstract—in such a way that the references are conveyed rather through the structure’s anatomy than on the surface. In addition, an autonomous “inner logic”—which is detached from the respective reference points—emerges within the compositions. The three divisions (places, dedications and images) can be considered stand-alone works; likewise, its movements (tracks) can be listened to separately as self-contained pieces and there’s, of course, also the dramaturgical context of the entire ca. 50-minute-long composition. In klang collection I mainly worked with piano sounds (even though one often cannot pick this out), with improvised as well as meticulously constructed ones, but also with synthetic material, field recordings—sounds of constricting but not lost times.
